Reactivating a Suspended Account
A suspended account does not appear in add and edit forms, so it can’t be used in new transactions. When you reactivate it, it becomes available for selection in all forms again, as before. This article explains how to reactivate a suspended account and what happens after reactivation.
🛈
Note: You need the Manage Journal Accounts permission. Without it, the system shows the message You are not allowed to view this page.

How to identify suspended accounts
In the Chart of Accounts, a Suspended indicator appears next to a suspended account. Suspended accounts still appear normally in the chart, and they also appear in reports and account filters.
Steps: reactivate a suspended account
From the accounts list
- From the main menu, click Accounting, then Chart of Accounts.
- Open the parent account that contains the suspended account.
- Click the actions button (⋯) next to the account that shows the Suspended indicator, and choose Reactivate.
From the account page
- Open the suspended account from the Chart of Accounts.
- From the actions menu at the top of the page, choose Reactivate.
The account is reactivated right away, with no confirmation message. The message Account Reactivated successfully. appears, and the Suspended indicator disappears.
🛈
Note: The Reactivate option appears on suspended accounts only. Active accounts show the Suspend option instead.
What happens after reactivation
- The account appears again in add and edit forms, such as journal entries, invoices, expenses and stock requisitions, and can be selected in new transactions.
- The account can be selected again in accounts routing in the accounting settings.
- If the parent account the account sits under is suspended, it is reactivated automatically, together with every suspended parent account above it, so that no active account stays under a suspended one.
- When you reactivate a parent account, its suspended sub-accounts are not reactivated automatically; reactivate each sub-account separately.
- Each reactivation is recorded in the Activity Log, including the automatic reactivation of parent accounts, separately for each account.
- Earlier transactions and journal entries on the account do not change, and neither do its balances.

FAQs
Why doesn’t the Reactivate option appear on the account?
Because the account isn’t suspended, or because you don’t have the Manage Journal Accounts permission.
I reactivated a parent account. Why are its sub-accounts still suspended?
Because reactivating a parent account doesn’t reactivate its sub-accounts. Reactivate each sub-account from the actions button next to it.
I reactivated a sub-account. Why did the parent account become active too?
Because an active sub-account can’t sit under a suspended parent account, so the suspended parent accounts above it are reactivated automatically.
Do I need to add the account back to accounts routing after reactivating it?
Yes, if you want to use it in routing. It was removed from routing when it was suspended, and it isn’t added back automatically after reactivation.
