Why Doesn’t the Account Appear in the Accounts List When Adding a Journal Entry or an Expense?
The accounts list in Journal Entries and the Journal Account field in Expenses show only the sub-accounts that are available for use. If the account you’re looking for doesn’t appear, check the following causes:
| Cause | How to check | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| The account is suspended. | A Suspended indicator appears next to the account in the Chart of Accounts. | Click the actions button (⋯) next to the account, and choose Reactivate. |
| The account is hidden. | The account doesn’t appear in the Chart of Accounts unless you turn on Show Hidden at the top of the page, and a Hidden indicator appears next to it. | Click the actions button (⋯) next to the account, and choose Unhide. |
| The account isn’t assigned to the branch you’re working in. | This happens when the Accounts Specified in The Chart of Accounts per Branch option is turned on in Branches Settings, so each account appears only in the branches it’s assigned to. | Open the account and click Edit, then add the branch from the Permissions section. Or create the transaction from the branch the account is assigned to. |
| The account isn’t among the first results in the list. | The list shows a limited number of accounts. | Type the account name or code in the search box inside the list. |

Note: Parent accounts don’t appear in this list, because journal entries and expenses are recorded on sub-accounts only. Choose one of the sub-accounts under the parent account.
