Setting the Printable Template Language

Template Language is a setting in each printable template that sets the language of the currency name in documents printed with that template, regardless of your account’s system language. If you select English, the currency name appears in English, and if you select Arabic, it appears in Arabic. This guide explains how to set the template language and how the language of existing templates was set before the setting was added.

🛈

Note: The template language controls the currency name only; it doesn’t translate the rest of the template text.

Setting the language of invoice, estimate, and purchase invoice templates

  1. Open Templates → Printable Templates, then click Invoices & Estimates or Purchase Invoices.
  2. Click New Layout and choose a starting design, or open an existing template for editing.
  3. In the Template Details tab, select English or Arabic from the Template Language field. Below the field, you’ll see: The currency name will appear in the selected language.
  4. Click Save.
🛈

Note: The Template Language field is required in invoice, estimate, and purchase invoice templates.

Setting the language of other printable templates

Such as Expenses, Incomes, Client Payments, and Supplier Payments templates:

  1. Open Templates → Printable Templates, then click the template type, such as Expenses.
  2. Click Add Template, or open an existing template for editing.
  3. Select English or Arabic from the Template Language field next to the template name.
  4. Click Save.

From then on, any document you print with this template shows the currency name in the selected language.

Language of templates that existed before the update

The system set the language of existing templates automatically, once, when the setting was added, based on the text written in each template:

Template content Template language set
Contains Arabic characters Arabic
Contains Latin characters only English
Contains no text, or its language is unclear The system language of your account

You can change the set language at any time from the Template Language field when editing the template.

Common problems and solutions

Problem Reason Solution
The currency name appears in English in an Arabic document, or in Arabic in an English document. The template used for printing is set to the other language, for example, because of the automatic language setting of existing templates. Open the template for editing, select the correct language from Template Language, then click Save.
You changed the system language, but the currency name language in printouts didn’t change. The currency name language follows the template language, not the system language. Change the Template Language itself from the template edit screen.

FAQs

Does the template language change when I change the system language?

No. The template language is a separate setting in each template and doesn’t follow your account’s system language.

Does the template language translate all the template text?

No. It only sets the language of the currency name. The rest of the template text appears as you wrote it in the design.

Do fixed currency symbols change based on the template language?

No. Currencies displayed as a fixed symbol, such as the Saudi Riyal symbol, appear the same in all languages.
