Multiple Printers — Print Routing and Invoice Printing in the POS App
After setting up printers and their groups, the system handles print routing automatically — it splits the order based on product categories and sends each part to the printers of its assigned group. This article explains the routing logic and invoice printing options across specific printer groups.
Before You Begin
- Routing requires printer groups to be set up and linked to printers beforehand — see the article.
- If the Branch feature is enabled, the app applies the routing settings specific to the current branch and device.
How Does the System Route Print Jobs Automatically?
- Orders: When an order is created, the system splits it according to its product categories and routes each part to the group linked to that category.
- Example: an order containing a meal and a drink — the meal line prints on the “Kitchen” group printers and the drink line prints on the “Bar” group printers, each as its own separate ticket.
- Invoices: Always routed to the invoice group printers (cashier) and printed at least once in all cases.
- Each printer only prints its group’s tickets: Every printer prints only the tickets routed to its groups and nothing else — the kitchen printer does not output bar tickets.
- A printer linked to more than one group: If one of its groups is the default invoice group (receipts), the invoice prints first followed by the remaining groups’ tickets in assignment order. Otherwise, tickets print in assignment order directly.
Printing an Invoice Using Printer Groups
When tapping “Print” from the invoice view screen:
- Single group in the account: Printing proceeds directly using the standard print behavior with no additional step.
- More than one group: A popup appears displaying:
- Standard Print (default option): Prints the invoice using the standard print method.
- Printer groups list with the ability to select more than one group: The invoice is automatically printed on all printers linked to the selected groups immediately upon selection.
How the System Works
- Printing to the selected groups is performed automatically with no further interaction after selection.
- The app applies routing rules saved online, synchronized between the web dashboard and the app.
Validation Rules
If one of the printers is disconnected or cannot be reached during printing, an error message appears on the POS screen with the option to reprint manually after resolving the issue — no ticket is lost.
